Some Do's and Do not's for inviting SPARK speakers to increase the diversity of your talk series.

DO Pay an honorarium when possible, even if it is not typical practice for your department. Remember that the structural barriers may be different for those new to academia as opposed to those coming from spaces of generational wealth. Talks take considerable time and energy to prepare, and adding travel increases the potential burden on a speaker.

DO consider bringing in pre-tenure faculty to help with their promotion/tenure applications and to help them network.

DO NOT bring scholars from historically excluded backgrounds to discuss what this experience is like/give training on JEDI/tell your department how to improve unless you are explicitly calling for this work. SPARK members are here for cognitive psychology and cognitive science expertise.

DO NOT separate your talk series into "regular" and "diversity" focused series. Instead, do the work internally to ensure your speakers represent various perspectives.

DO NOT be afraid to pass this link along to others and extrapolate its notions to other invitations.
