Job Summary

The Department of Psychology, within the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences at Radford University, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the Experimental Psychology program beginning Fall 2022. We are especially interested in applicants with interests in the biological/neural mechanisms of behavior and cognition, but specialization within this broad area is open. Our master’s program in Experimental Psychology is rigorous and well-regarded, and we wish to further increase the range of opportunities and experiences we offer to our students. We are particularly interested in candidates who can conduct animal research in our well-equipped vivarium and include undergraduate and graduate students in their program of research. Radford’s master’s program in experimental psychology provides an opportunity for students to pursue research in a wide variety of specialty areas, including neuroscience and developmental, cognitive, and social psychology. The program has a long history of preparing students for further advanced study in psychology and careers in research-related fields. The Psychology Department also offers a large bachelor’s program; a master’s in Industrial-Organizational Psychology; master’s and educational specialist degrees in School Psychology; and a Psy.D. in Counseling Psychology. Candidates must have a strong commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education. The successful applicant will be expected to teach core courses in his/her area of expertise and courses that support the undergraduate psychology program. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach graduate and undergraduate courses in psychopharmacology and biological foundations of behavior as well as undergraduate courses in statistics and research methods. Candidates will also be expected to establish an independent program of research and to participate in departmental, college, and university governance. Completed the Ph.D. degree by the August 2022 start date.
