The Department of Psychology at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) invites applications from researchers with a background in cognitive psychology and aging at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level. This position supports ongoing university and college-level initiatives in brain health and health disparities. Expertise in advanced quantitative and/or human neuroscience methods is desirable, but not required. The successful applicant will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in this area (e.g., cognitive psychology, cognitive aging), to teach other courses appropriate to their expertise, direct masters and doctoral students, maintain a successful research program, and secure extramural funding. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field; a record of publications, teaching, and mentoring commensurate with rank; and a commitment to inclusion and diversity.
The Psychology Department hosts one of the largest majors on campus and offers degree programs at the BA, MS, and PhD level. Students at each level have opportunities to assist in faculty research. Although our faculty represent many of the traditional subfields of Psychology, most research within the department, from whichever subfield, has implications for health outcomes (broadly construed). Psychology faculty have a history of collaboration with researchers at the University of Texas Health San Antonio, Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, Veterans Administration, Pearson Testing Company, San Antonio Military Medical Center (including Brooke Army Medical Center) and the Institute for Army Surgical Research, and the STRONG STAR Consortium. Required qualifications
Successful candidates are required to have a doctorate degree in Psychology or a closely related field, expertise in cognition and aging research, an appropriate record of publications, teaching, and mentoring for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor; and demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity. ABD candidates with anticipated graduation before August 2023 will be considered. Applicants should have and a research agenda with potential for high impact publications and extramural funding. Appointments are contingent upon Board of Regents’ approval.
Preferred qualifications
Expertise in statistical analyses; expertise in human neuroscience; history of external funding; teaching experience in relevant areas; history of student mentoring at the undergraduate, MS, and PhD levels; demonstrated intellectual contributions to the area of inclusion and diversity. Research with applications to age-related sensory, cognitive, or motor disorders is also welcomed.
Compensation
Compensation will be commensurate with applicant qualifications.
