Journal of Experimental Psychology: General Call for Editorial Fellowship Nominations
https://www.apa.org/pubs/journals/resources/call-editorial-fellowships
Nomination deadline: November 1, 2022
The editorial leadership team for Journal of Experimental Psychology: General seeks nominations for 6 editorial fellowship positions for early-career psychologists (ECPs) from historically excluded groups. Fellows serve 12-month terms beginning January 1, 2023 and the position includes an honoraria stipend of $1,000 USD per fellow.
In service of APA’s recent resolutions to address systemic racism in psychology, this fellowship program seeks to elevate leadership opportunities for ECPs from historically excluded groups, particularly Black, Indigenous, and other psychologists of color, as well as members from other communities which have been historically excluded from leadership opportunities in research and publishing.
Qualifications
Fellowships are open to qualified candidates from historically excluded groups who have completed their education/training and are no more than 10 years postdoctoral. Candidates may hold a position at the rank of assistant professor (or equivalent, such as a research scientist); individuals in nonacademic positions and suitable qualifications are also eligible. Qualified candidates may have experience conducting peer reviews, and expertise in topics of cultural and ethnic diversity is desirable.
We also look for evidence of a broad perspective, good judgment, exceptional communication skills, and strong management skills, as well as a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Responsibilities
The fellows will work closely with the journal’s editor or one of the associate editors to develop their editorial leadership skills. Each fellow will be mentored to serve as the action editor on approximately 6 to 12 manuscripts over the course of the year. This process will include screening manuscripts for appropriateness, identifying reviewers, making an editorial decision based on reviews, and shepherding the manuscript through to publication if accepted, all with mentorship from the editor or associate editor.
The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in monthly meetings with their mentor to ensure goals are met. Most of these meetings will be video teleconferences, although in-person meetings at scientific conferences are also possible.
Fellows will be credited on the journal masthead and, upon successful completion of the fellowship, will become members of the journal’s editorial board.
How to Apply
Interested and qualified candidates should send a letter of interest introducing themselves, their expertise, and an explanation of their interest in and appropriateness for the position, along with a copy of their CV, to Sarah Brown-Schmidt, the editor at JEP:General before November 1, 2022.
Appointments will be made in November/December and positions will begin January 1, 2023.
