Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Psychology at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf
The Department of Liberal Studies at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf invite applications for one faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Psychology (specialization open). The position is a 9-month, tenure-track appointment. Review of applications will commence immediately. Start date: August 1, 2022 or later.
The new Assistant or Associate Professor of Psychology will:
Conduct research in the applicant’s area of specialization
Teach and tutor undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology and related disciplines
Advise and mentor deaf and hard of hearing students involved in undergraduate and graduate research
Attend professional development activities
Participate in communication development activities
Serve the department, institute, and the community as needed

Department/College Description
The National Technical Institute for the Deaf serves more than 1,100 deaf and hard-of-hearing students from around the world, many of whom live, study and work alongside hearing students on the mainstream RIT campus. NTID sponsors and encourages research designed to enhance the lives of deaf and hard-of-hearing people. Faculty at NTID work either on discipline-based research within their own academic departments, or come together in research centers and or labs to work on strategic research projects. Students are encouraged to actively partner with faculty on research projects of mutual interest. The Department of Liberal Studies is one of the largest departments at NTID and has faculty from across the humanities and social sciences. Current faculty are actively engaged in psychological research, with two extramurally funded research labs (https://www.deafxlab.com/ and https://www.rit.edu/ntid/playlab) and a strategic research center (https://www.rit.edu/ntid/space). Our faculty support DHH students in the AAS Applied Liberal Arts, BS Psychology and MS Experimental Psychology programs. A PhD in Cognitive Science has been approved by the NYS Education Department, with an anticipated start date of Fall 2023. Other faculty in DLS have specializations in English, Developmental English, Sociology and Deaf Studies, providing a rich interdisciplinary community. Required Minimum Qualifications
PhD or ABD** in psychology or relevant field
Significant teaching experience and/or professional experience in postsecondary settings, communities or organizations
Evidence of research and scholarly activities
Proficient in American Sign Language
Ability to teach a variety of Deaf, Hard of Hearing and hearing students who may utilize a variety of communication and learning modalities
Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
**This tenure-track position requires that the candidate possess a doctoral degree in a relevant field. If the successful candidate is ABD, they will begin their employment with lecturer status. The position will be converted to tenure-track at the start of the contract year after the candidate has completed the degree. At the time, the probationary period for tenure review as specified in the letter of hire will begin.
